What is ScholarVault and what does it do?+

ScholarVault is a researcher-first academic ecosystem built for researchers in India and beyond. Its flagship product, the ScholarVault Conference Verification System (SCVS), performs 18 automated integrity checks on conference websites in approximately 12 seconds, producing a trust score, detailed assessment, and downloadable verification report. SCVS is the first product within the broader ScholarVault ecosystem.

Why should I use ScholarVault before submitting to a conference?+

Indian researchers lose between ₹8,000 and ₹50,000 per incident to unverified conferences — including registration fees, travel, and accommodation — with zero legal recourse and no refund policy. Beyond money, publishing in an unverified venue can flag your profile in NAAC audits, damage your reputation with employers, and mean your paper never appears in the databases the conference claimed. ScholarVault gives you a verified, data-backed answer in 12 seconds — before you pay anything.

Is ScholarVault free to use?+

Access, included usage and paid options are shown in the ScholarVault dashboard. Review the current terms there before choosing an option. For help with an existing Gold membership, contact support@scholarvault.in.

What are the 18 things ScholarVault checks?+

Our engine runs 18 checks across 4 categories:

  • Security — SSL certificate validity
  • Credibility — Domain age, Scopus indexing verification, Web of Science verification, DOAJ listing, URL structure, committee transparency, conference history
  • Integrity — unverified blacklist check, impact factor claims, physical venue transparency, peer review process, publication honesty, contact information, registration transparency
  • Community — Social and academic presence, website stability, community complaint reports

Each check carries a weighted score. The sum gives you the final Trust Index out of 100.

What does the Trust Index score mean?+

The Trust Index summarizes automated evidence and risk signals. It is an assessment, not a guarantee of legitimacy or a grant of expert-verified status. Review the supporting evidence and unresolved concerns. Expert verification requires a separate human review.

Is ScholarVault a registered company in India?+

Yes. ScholarVault is a legitimate business entity based in Chennai, India. We are a Registered MSME company and are officially recognized as a Startup India Listed entity. We believe in radical transparency. Our registration ensures that we operate under legal oversight, providing researchers with a secure and accountable platform for academic conference verification.

Who built ScholarVault? Who is behind it?+

ScholarVault is built by the ScholarVault Team, Chennai — a team that has worked on academic event organisation and research integrity in India. We've seen unverified conferences up close, which is why we built a tool to fight them systematically rather than relying on manual checklists. The audit engine is version 3.5, running 847+ threat signatures updated continuously from community reports, blacklist databases, and direct domain analysis.

What exactly is a unverified conference?+

A unverified conference is an academic event that mimics legitimate conferences to extract money from researchers — typically registration fees, publication charges, and travel costs — while providing none of the academic value promised:

  • False Scopus, Web of Science, or IEEE indexing claims
  • No verifiable peer review process
  • Fabricated or stolen committee member names
  • No physical venue, or a venue that doesn't match the claimed dates
  • Mass unsolicited email invitations with urgent deadlines
  • No refund policy after payment

ScholarVault checks all of these automatically so you don't have to verify each one manually.

Do I need to create an account to use ScholarVault?+

No signup is needed for basic audits. Paste the URL, get the result. That's it. Creating a free account lets you save audit results to your vault, track conferences over time, and receive alerts when a saved conference changes status. Gold and Institution users get the full feature set including PDF export and CFP deadline tracking.

How do you verify Scopus or Web of Science claims?+

We cross-reference the conference's claimed proceedings or journal ISSN/ISBN against the official Scopus source list and the Web of Science Master Journal List. Simply claiming "Scopus indexed" on a homepage is not enough — the specific proceedings or journal must appear in those lists. Many unverified conferences display the Scopus logo or claim indexing for some previous year of proceedings, while the current year's proceedings are not indexed. Our engine checks both the claim and the verifiability of that specific event.

What is the high-risk blacklist and how is it updated?+

Our intelligence engine tracks thousands of conference organisers. Any brand that is identified as high-risk through multiple sources (Beall's List, community reports, and automated pattern recognition) is added to our internal database. Updates are pushed the moment new unverified domains appear publicly — so you're protected even from newly-launched unverified conferences.

How does the audit complete in 12 seconds?+

The 18 checks run in parallel against our pre-built databases and live domain analysis APIs. Most checks resolve in milliseconds by comparing against cached datasets. A small number of live checks (SSL, domain age, page content) take slightly longer but all complete within a single request cycle.

Can I report a suspicious conference I've encountered?+

Yes — and we strongly encourage it. On the Blacklist tab, any user can submit a conference URL with a reason and optional evidence. Our engine runs a full 24-hour audit on the submission and adds it to the blacklist if confirmed as high-risk.

What if ScholarVault flags a legitimate conference incorrectly?+

Our reports are informational and based on publicly available data. If you believe a result is incorrect, contact us with evidence and we will re-review within 48 hours. Legitimate conferences can also apply for a verified badge through our institutional onboarding process.

What do Pass, Fail, and Neutral status meanings?+
  • PASS — The check found clear positive evidence.
  • FAIL — The check found a clear red flag or information was absent.
  • NEUTRAL — Inconclusive from available data. Always manually verify these before submitting.
What is the forensic PDF report?+

The forensic PDF is a professional audit document including Executive Summary, Category-level breakdown, full 18-point audit table, critical red flags, and risk assessment for NAAC compliance documentation.

What if I paid for a conference that is unverified or high-risk?+

Contact your bank immediately for a chargeback. High-risk conference organisers rarely contest chargebacks because they want to avoid legal scrutiny. ScholarVault can provide you with an Audit Report to use as evidence for your bank's investigation.

Can I monitor a conference's score over time?+

Yes. Save any conference to your Vault and receive a Score Change Alert immediately if the trust score drops. This protects you if a conference's status changes to high-risk closer to the deadline.

What do I get with the Gold plan?+

Access, included usage and paid options are shown in the ScholarVault dashboard. Review the current terms there before choosing an option. For help with an existing Gold membership, contact support@scholarvault.in.

What is the Institution plan for?+

Designed for departments and IQAC cells, including 10 team seats, department dashboards, and NAAC-ready bulk reports.

What about billing and cancellations?+

Cancel at any time. GST invoices are issued automatically for all paid plans and can be downloaded from your billing dashboard.

Does it work outside India?+

Yes. The audit framework applies universally — domain age, SSL, indexing verification, etc. are global checks. International billing is available in USD.

What data is collected?+

We only store emails for registered users and conference URLs for audits. We do not sell or share your data, and we are DPDP 2023 compliant.

Is it safe to submit URLs?+

Completely. Audits are performed from our servers. Conference organisers cannot detect you've audited them.

Is the report an official document?+

Reports are informational but include unique IDs and NAAC sustainability statements, accepted as due diligence documentation by many IQAC cells and supervisors.

Is ScholarVault itself trustworthy?+

We are fully transparent and you can audit us using our own engine. Our policies are published and we comply with India's DPDP Act.
