Is the UGC CARE list still updated?

No. The official portal states that the list has not been updated since October 2024 and will not be updated further following the February 2025 notice. A page advertising a newly updated “UGC CARE list 2026” should not be treated as an official current list.

Where should you check the status?

Read the notice on the official UGC CARE portal linked above. Keep the date and source with your notes. References to Group 1 and Group 2 describe the earlier framework; they do not establish current approval of a journal.

Ask your institution which publication requirements apply to your programme or assessment. Requirements can differ, and an old list or an article cannot substitute for the current institutional policy.

What evidence should you review before submitting?

• Match the journal title, ISSN, publisher and website across the sources you consult.
• Check any indexing claim directly with the named database, including coverage dates and discontinued coverage.
• Read the editorial board, peer-review process, publication fees and correction or withdrawal policies.
• Keep the source links and dates. If information conflicts, ask the publisher and your institution before making a commitment.

A copied logo, ISSN or historical listing alone does not establish that a website is the authentic journal.
